Professional profile

Mr Gozzard was appointed as a full-time consultant trauma and orthopaedic surgeon at Derriford Hospital, Plymouth in 2008. He works as a general trauma surgeon within the Major Trauma Centre at Derriford Hospital. His elective practice is devoted entirely to dealing with problems of the hand and wrist. He has developed a specialist interest in dealing with complex wrist trauma. 

 

He qualified from the Royal London Hospital in 1994 and was appointed a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1998. He undertook specialist training in Trauma and Orthopaedics in Bristol and completed his training in 2007.

 

He has developed a sub-specialist interest in hand and wrist surgery. To further his interest and training he worked in an Advanced Training Post in Hand Surgery in Oxford in 2006. Awarded a travelling fellowship by the British Society for Surgery of the Hand, he undertook an international Hand Surgery Fellowship in Sydney, Australia in 2007.

 

Away from the hospital he enjoys spending time with my wife and three children. He is an active sailor and enjoy participating in or following most sports, when the opportunity arises.

 

Research

 

Mr Gozzard has published peer reviewed articles for a variety of journals. He was awarded an MD for research work while undertaking orthopaedic training in Bristol.

 

He continues to be involved in research currently working as the principal investigator in a multi-centre randomised control trial concerned with wrist fracture management.
